Winter steelhead are in, but the key will be hitting the river when water conditions are favorable. Check water levels (you’ll find lots of links to reporting stations throughout the Rec Report), and try to fish when levels are steady or falling.
Gray whales are migrating along the Oregon Coast
Migrating gray whales have started their southward migration to Baja. Christmas break is typically when the observations of these mammals is most reliable. At many sites there will be Whale Watching Spoke Here volunteers to tell you about the migration and help you spot whales. Remember to bring binoculars and/or spotting scopes for best viewing.
Bird hunting opportunities
Upland game bird hunting is in full swing with many opportunities statewide. Check the Rec Report and the 2012-2013 game bird regulations.
